The Oscar-winning actress announced she and Scandal lead Kerry Washington will star in and executive produce the project which will be a limited series adaptation of author Celeste Ng's bestselling novel Little Fires Everywhere.

Witherspoon took to Instagram both on her personal account and her production company (with the best name) Hello Sunshine's account to make the announcement:

The 2017 novel was on all the bestseller lists last year including as a top pick of Witherspoon's book club. Witherspoon is known as a voracious reader with an uncanny ability to pick out sensational book club reads that would also make fantastic viewing when turned into a show or movie - her previous book-to-show projects include huge hits Big Little Lies and Wild.

Which explains the rumoured TV studio bidding war over this next project of Witherspoon's. According to The Hollywood Reporter Little Fires Everywhere has, "...sparked a frenzy among TV buyers," everyone wants in on this Witherspoon/Washington project which will be produced by Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine, Washington's Simpson Street and ABC Signature Studios.

As for the story, it's a Big Little Lies small town scandal-style narrative set in Shaker Heights, Ohio about a custody battle over a Chinese-American baby which divides the town.

Witherspoon must have more hours in the day than any other human, aside from this project, she's about to star in the forthcoming second Big Little Lies series plus co-star in an as-yet-untitled TV show opposite Jennifer Aniston which Apple has given a two season order for.
