You're doing all the right skincare things from moisturising to staying out of the sun to eating all the right 'beauty' foods so why are wrinkles forming, hectic acne erupting and where did all those unsightly brown pigmentation spots come from? It just doesn't make sense.

Well science may have found the answer and it's not ideal. According to Refinery29 our addiction to staring into a screen whether it's a smartphone, tablet or computer screen all day may be seriously messing with our skin. The reason? The blue light or High Energy Visible (HEV) light coming at us from our electronic devices.

We all know light from the sun, UV rays, is a major cause of skin ageing disgracefully.  Without adequate protection - an SPF, wide-brimmed hat and staying indoors during the sunniest hours - the sun's rays are responsible for all sorts of skin-related issues from wrinkles to pigmentation to worst-case scenario: skin cancer. And Refinery29 reports that similar to how the light issuing forth from the sun damages our skin, blue light (HEV) coming from our smartphone, computer or tablet can also cause a host of skincare issues.

Refinery29 reports dermatologist Howard Murad says, "Excessive blue light accelerates the oxidation process, which elicits inflammation and damages the skin barrier, making it more prone to signs of ageing, increased uneven skin tone, dullness, pigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles."

But before you go on a complete digital detox and return to the paper and pen era (which is just too slow, let's be realistic) there are a number of skincare products on the market working to combat those brutal blue light rays. Scroll down for blue-light combating skincare options:
